It was 18 years ago that the meaning of Memorial Day really hit home with me.
My wife and I were in Little Compton, Rhode Island eating breakfast at Commons Lunch on Memorial Day. As we were leaving the restaurant we strolled across the street to the town’s cemetery to catch a Memorial Day ceremony, facilitated by the local American Legion.
After the speeches were made, rifles fired and final prayers given, we walked amongst the grave markers of the cemetery. Many of the head stones were adored with fresh flowers and small American flags which we have all seen in countless Memorial Day pictures – However, there was one difference.
These were symbols of gratitude for the local men & women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in: The War of Independence, the war of 1812, American Civil War, Spanish American War, WW I, WW II, The Korean & Vietnam conflicts, the first Gulf War and countless other drama’s of which there are to many to name here.
That is when it hit me! Memorial Day weekend wasn’t just the unofficial start of the summer season but an incredible somber yet important weekend of remembrance for our fallen countryman and to say prayers for their family’s.
The Associates at Navigator Business Solutions thank the men & women who gave everything they had for their country and to their relatives who every day of the year morn their sacrifice.
Part four of the five part series on the Navigator Business Solutions Building Blocks Approachâ„¢ will be published on Tuesday May 31, 2016.
God Bless.
